Problem installing on sparc. Kernel Panic after ramdisk

After I boot cdrom and enter randisk at the bootprompt (or even vmlinuz) I get a kernel panic attempted to kill init! message and everything just seems to hang.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can proceed? I'd really like to get Gentoo working on this machine (Ultra Sparc 1)

I downloaded the 1.1a-r2 iso to start me off, but I can't even get to run kernel off the cd.

If anyone has any tips please let me know. Maybe i'm going about installing it in the wrong way.

I also tried download the 1.4 sparc64 stage 1 tarball, untarred and burned it to a cd but when I try and boot off of it I get a "bad magic number" message.

Any thoughts?
