well, i absolutely have no idea what's wrong and how to fix it. i've tried all kinds of different configs with no luck. none of 2.6.12-gentoo-r3 kernels i configured worked, all freezing very soon in the boot proccess. finally today i tried genkernel, i tried with and without initrd in grub.conf, no luck. if genkernel failed the i guess it must be the sources. i'll emerge other sources, maybe 2.6.12-gentoo-r2, and see if they work.
