compiled new kernel, now i get nothing after lilo [solved]

I compiled the nitro sources and backed up my old kernel and copied the bzimage and system.map to the boot partition. I /sbin/lilo'd and rebooted, only to get nothing after the lilo prompt, in fact the lilo prompt is still on the screen, saying "loading gentoo:" but not doing a thing, where normally it would output a bunch of "..........................." and continue on booting. I figured it might be the kernel and compiled a new version of love-sources instead and same thing. I figured since both gave me the same result it must be something with lilo or something i did when backing up my old kernel. I havent tried my old kernel (probably should) but i figured since it happened with two different kernels gotta be something else.

did /sbin/dolilo and that took care of it. I dont know what I was missing before... done it a million times and never had a problem
