mousewheel single click and drag (a la win9x/NT w/ MSIE)

is it doable in linux? does anyone know how? my wife has come over from the dark side but she's missing all those little comforts that made productivity so much easier.

is it also possible to alt-tab between windows in kde or gnome? if not, then what button combo can switch between windows. she primarily uses the mouse for scrolling browser windows, but the rest is all keyboard action.

help is appreciated!

p.s. she's running redhat, but we're considering putting gentoo on there shortly... redhat's just too.. blech.

I have kde 3.1 and alt-tab works just like in windows.

About your mouse problem, if I understood well you want to open with the single clic instead of the doubleclick? Then there's the option in Control Centrer under Peripheals\Mouse.

You might also want to take a look in Desktop\Window Behaviour.

ah, nope.

in windows, you can click the middle mouse button (not on a hyperlink) on a webpage and a little circle with an up and a down arrow appears. if you motion the mouse down a little, the page will scroll down ever so slowly. if you motion down fast, it jumps down to the bottom of the page. saves you the tedium (is that a word) of using a thin little scroll bar to the right of the webpage. very handy feature and one that took me a while to learn to live without. however, my wife raises a good point when she says "i thought linux was all about productivity? i dont care how stable an OS is. if i can't get my work done, it's useless."

granted those weren't her exact words, but yeah.

Mozilla (and Phoenix) has an extension for this, called autoscroll. Available as a one-click install, so I'll just ignore your ramblings about productivity.

How come it is easier to type something in a forum than it is to read?

I think is a per-driver feature since I cannot fin that in a WinXP system...

It's San Valentino, buy her a Logitech optical wheel mouse and make her happy... :roll:

i've looked for it recently but never came up with anything. i wasn't ever aware that it could be done as a simple extension. my searches turned up something completely different.

anyhoo, it appears that it only works for windows versions of mozilla... i'll test it out when i get home.

Hey thanks for the scroll extension!

I've been using Linux for 3 years and didn't know there was a scroll extension.And i'm still using my old Logitech wheel mouse i used back in my Windoze daze.

This feature is also available in galeon, just select preferences-> user interface-> mouse and set middle mouse button to auto-scroll

ill give that a shot then. redhat's kinda quirky and it's extremely slow.

when i install gentoo, maybe we'll try galeon.

does anyone know if the alt-tab way of switching windows works well in gnome?

Funny, I hate that scroll-feature. What I'm addicted to is being able to "scrollwheel-click" a link and make it open in a new background-tab. Makes me pissed off everytime I "scrollwheel-click" when being caged in a wintendo environment.

How do you install it to Mozilla? It works in Phoenix fine, but not in mozilla. Installer does not make any changes to chrome/overlayinfo/navigator/content (in mozilla 1.2.1 there is no browser-directory). I'd like to use Mozilla instead of phoenix (because Mozilla's mail client is great!). Now when I press middle-click, "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" -message appears to screen..
