I have following problem:
When I include OSS in the Kernel config, the sound works on Gaim, certainly soft, but it works.
On xmms it occured a error message, and on Mplayer also.
Code:

<*> Sound card support
  <*>   PowerMac DMA sound support

When I include Alsa it comes a KernelPanik.
It occured when I include the following:
Code:

ALSA PowerMac devices --->
    <*> PowerMac (AWACS, DACA, Burgundy, Tumbler, Keywest)

When I negate this, and only:
Code:

<*> Sound card support
    Advanced Linux Sound Architecture --->
    < >   PowerMac DMA sound support
      <*> Advanced Linux Sound Architecture
      <*> Sequencer support
      <*> Sequencer dummy client
      ALSA PowerMac devices --->
      < > PowerMac (AWACS, DACA, Burgundy, Tumbler, Keywest)

then the Kernel boot up, but during that it founds no alsa device

Moreover on boot up Gnome everytime, it occured a message:
No mixer found or so, independence of Alsa(without device) or OSS

I hope anybody can help me, maybe with some ideas, tips or a solution.
it is a ibook G4 12" 800mhz

I use the 2.6.12 kernel and it works great.
Just build the ALSA drivers as modules.
Ignore OSS.

Also the PowerMac ALSA module depends on another thing.

Under:

Device Drivers -> I2C support ->

Choose:

I2C Support
I2C device interface

And then under I2C Hardware bus support choose:

PowerMac Keywest I2C Interface

Hope this helps.
