Sono riuscito (o almeno credo) a configurare il sistema per utilizzare la codifica UTF-8, leggendo tutto quello che c'è da leggere sull'argomento. L'unica cosa che non mi è chiara è un messaggio che ricevo al boot:
| Code: | * Loading key mappings ...
assuming iso-8859-15 euro
* Setting terminal encoding to UTF-8 ... |
Non sono riuscito ancora a capire a cosa si riferisce quel "assuming". Qualcuno mi saprebbe illuminare su questa cosa?
Per il resto funziona tutto. Ad esempio:

Anche a me da quel messaggio all'avvio, ma pare funzionare lo stesso..
che terminale usate compatibile con utf8? aterm non è ancora compatibile

oppure all'assenza, in /etc/conf.d/keymaps, di:
