Hello.
I'm having a strange problem resolving hosts. I've been using wireless internet at various coffeeshops around town and have never had this problem before today. When trying to merge a package, it says Connecting to some.host.blah.blah [1.0.0.0]:21 or some other obscure address such as [2001:610:1908:8000::175:1]:21
The first one just times out, and the second variety just gives me "failed: Address family not supported by protocol."
I'm also having the same problem trying to connect to irc servers. Half the time it tries to resolve [1.0.0.0], and the rest of the time it tries to resolve what looks like a valid IP. But every time the connection just times out.
What's strange is that I can browse websites without any problems, but I can't seem to ftp to my web space.
Could this be because of a proxy of some kind? or due to the coffeeshop's ISP? I don't recall having similar problems here before, but I don't recall if I tried to merge anything or get on irc.
If anyone has any idea what my problem might be, please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would highly suspect the coffee shop/ISP has a proxy of some sort. I have seen similar behaviot when trying to do things on a hotel's "free high speed internet" when out of town. |
