If you would like a GUI, and you are using KDE, I think there will be no argument over the suggestion of k3b. For Gnome, or any other desktop environment or windows manager, there is no clear winner and searching the desktop environment forum will likely yield threads similar to your question. For commandline, I cannot help.

Personally, I am planning my Gentoo install for an Athlon64 notebook I am getting soon. I had been using Xfce4 because of it's speed, but I no longer need to worry too much about resources, so I am choosing kde solely because of k3b.

What are your opinions on xcdroast? I heard it was pretty good ... I didn't use it yet.
