|

Alright...
When I restart the machine, the alsasound init script starts without errors/warning messages...however, I *CANNOT* play audio, neither from root nor from user accounts. xmms gives me some error about sound card not being configured properly and alsamixer just spits out a bunch of data and doesn't play anything.
However, if I restart the init.d script (by typing in "/etc/init.d/alsasound restart") I get a familiar error: "/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_controls:1088: snd_ctl_open error: No such file or directory", but then my sound works without any problems. If I restart alsasound again (start it a third time), the error even goes away and things continue to work. If I hard stop alsasound (by issuing "/etc/init.d/alsasound stop") and then start it fresh, I'll get the same warning about snd_ctrl_open but things will work. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Anyway, I want sound to work without having to restart alsasound (once or twice) after boot. Any help?
thanks,

What card is this (just for reference)?
I take it you've followed the Alsa guide perfectly? I've had a couple of glitches where I've had to remove alsa completely and recompile to get it working fine. Maybe this is worth a go first? |

worst case you can put the restart commands in /etc/conf.d/local.start |

my card is an echo mia (the driver is snd-mia), and I went through great pains to get it working properly...but I think this must be some kind of a device/permissions issue (perhaps pam related?)... otherwise it wouldn't be complaining about the device node (/dev/snd) being missing when it is in fact there. _________________ My Last.fm profile | get e17! |

I tried that, but it didn't work. I still have to restart alsasound once after I login each time I reboot. _________________ My Last.fm profile | get e17! |
