What has happened when the modem is looped back error appears? I had a successful connection using pppd call <ISP> (via pon <ISP>) which worked for roughly 950 minutes w/o interruption. I stopped the connection using poff to check something out which was non-related and when I chose to start the connection I got that loopback msg on all interfaces except kppp (which always gives me an 'auth' error).
Thanks... _________________ ...Yogi |

Hello Yogi-Ch
If I remember right - I havn't used a POTS modem for a while, it means that your local pppd cannot "talk " to the remote ppp daemon. It thinks (almost certainly incorrectly) that your local modem is operating in one of the "loop" modes, which are just test modes. The actual cause is usually something different, such as two pppds running on your computer, that's the old one which wasn't killed off and a new one which you have just started. |

Thought I'd checked for that, but perhaps not. At any rate, I'll give it a look next time I play w/my new 2005.0 - KDE-3.4.1 installation. (Meanwhile, back to the production system. I'm glad I have a spare HD for playing! )
Thanks! _________________ ...Yogi |
