|
|
During boot I get:
* Checking root file system...
Failed to open the device '/dev/ROOT': No such file or directory
* Filesystem couldn't be fixed : ( [!!]
Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D for normal startup):
I don't have a clue as to why it's looking for /dev/ROOT, but Control-D reboots the system and I'm back to where I started and typing in my password gives me a Bash shell. Any ideas on how to proceed??? |

Yeah, I had this once before. Can't remember what it was (guessing fstab), but what were you doing just before you booted? Any changes to the system? |

Once you are logged in as a user, su for root priviledges. I would check your fstab, boot/grub/grub.conf or any other file with the nano editor. You may also need to configure with grub. |

Hi.
You forgot to edit /etc/fstab. You have at least to change the /dev/ROOT, /dev/BOOT and /dev/SWAP lines to point to your partitions and don't forget updating the filesystems type. _________________ Jorge.

If that shell doesn't let you use nano or get access to the filesystem, you may have to boot off the livecd and mount the drive to edit fstab. |

It is /etc/fstab, I never changed the vanilla names that came with the file.....DUH!! That would explain why I
didn't recognize it! Thanks a million! |

Having also added [FIXED] at the title of the first post you would be saving time of others with this problem looking for a solution, and not wasting mine . . . _________________ Regards,
