|
|
My Hercules Fortissimo II has a hardware equalizer which I have much enjoyed in Windows XP. I'd like to get this to work in Linux as well since since it adds so much more to the sound without the extra CPU usage, and because it also works on audio inputs (I have my Mac hooked up to the line in. iTunes still rocks every other MP3 player out there ). Does anyone know if this is possible yet?
Also is there a way to switch to the headphones output the way this is possible with the Windows drivers? |

i'd be happy if my Fort2 just worked at all. i can't seem to figure out how to install the drivers for it in the kernel. i see no section for CS4624. closest match is CS461x. using 2.4.20 + gentoo sources |

You should probably follow the alsa installation guide . use ALSA_CARDS='cs46xx' It should work fine after that. |

What's so horrible about ALSA then? I'm a desktop Linux newbie so you'll have to excuse my ignorance on this field |

try Crystal SoundFusion (CS4280/461x) option.....
it works for me .. Hercules Gametheater xp (cs4630)
but should work with the same driver as cs4624....
or alsa
and don't turn pcm volume over 70 % or the sound will get really bad =((( |

Same sound card, using ALSA now, but I was as puzzled as you when trying to pick the kernel driver.
BTW, apart from the known distortion when playing too loud, don't you feel that sounds seem more spatial, more stereophonic under linux (compared to the same card under Windows)? I don't mean moer postional, but rather more split between the sides, not sounding like a single central source.
Oh well, maybe it's just me. |
