|
|
I know there is an example available and I have looked through the list in the help or man page I forget which one
I have put -gtk -gnome qt kde ha1 cdr alsa jack acc avi aim mozilla java php wifi
Does anyone have an example of their use flags - I am just sure there is a bunch of stuff missing
I want to be able to burn and play divx and downloaded movies
I aslo want to be able to fun an apache server with php and mysql as well as use this awesome new machien thanks to you gentoo guys - for basic desktop and applications - so any suggestions would be appreciated. I know I have to decide what to add and it is not quite the gentoo way to just copy paste, but I will take any suggestions offered to mind. I just want a good starting point.

Alright I think I am good to go, but one more question. After I change my use flags - should I recompile or something or do some emerege. Also - I want to install KDE, but I am not sure if my X server is tottally working and I am not sure which use flags apply.
The thing is - If I install and then add a use flag later - will that effect me in some negateive way and if so how do I fix it. IF I remove a use flag should i recompile everything or what? I just don't quite get all the use stuff yet. Anyhelp woudl be great. oh and users...if I change user grpup setting do I have to recompuile too? I guess I am just wondering when I have to update and compile things when I make changes whether it is a USE flag or anything else. |

i used to have a sample set categorized...
for KDE -- X kde qt -arts -gnome -gtk -gtk2 -esd
for Multimedia -- divx4linux quicktime real xvid jpeg png mng jpeg2k tng tiff vorbis flac
for system -- nptl nptlonly pic
as for use flags changing:
1.) use the /etc/portage/package.use file as described in man portage. this will allow you to set per-package use flags as needs. e.g. giving gtk support to gftp when using kde.
2.) use emerge -uD --newuse world when updating. emerge -pvuD --newuse world will list the packages to be updated and the use flags set. _________________ HW problems. It's a VIA thing. |
