installation: problem with grub after reboot

I am following the handbook and i thaught i had finally reached the end. I had emerged grub and written grub.conf (for people who didn't use genkernel).
Now it said it was time to exit the chrooted environment and unmount all mounted partitions and time to reboot, so i did that.
But when i rebooted (i removed the installation cd) all i got was the word grub written over and over again on my screen.
Like this: grub grub grub grub grub grub grub grub grub grub grub grub and so forth, all over the screen.
Is there anyone who can tell me what i did wrong and how i can fix it?
