Is ndiswrapper running?
make sure you modprobe ndiswrapper first.
I have an R4000 which is basically the same laptop, and have not had a problem getting the wireless running.

I had the same results with iwlist when I had ACPI enabled. Passing ACPI=off to the kernel solved the problem. I have not seen a solution to the problem of ACPI interfering with NIC functionality, so if anybody knows of one, pass it along :) .
