Is there any special trick to getting Genkernel to see my Serial ATA drives.

I have double and triple checked my etc/fstab and my grub config. I think that I need to pass some kind of option in the bootloader or something to get it to kick off the Serial ATA driver. The reason is Grub cannot seem to find the root partition, but I know its's there and in the right place.

This is the first time I have used Genkernel on a Serial ATA box. So just making sure I am not chasing my tail.

I looked over the Genkernel guide, but there really isn't anything in there about it.

Thanks in advance,

Hi.

I've never used Genkernel, but from all the posts here in the forums, I'm under the impression that you'll have to configure manually the support for the SATA controllers. I think that you need to do something like
Code:
# genkernel options --menuconfig

I would ditch genkernel for a manually configured kernel, but that's your option.

Normally I do a manual config for the stuff that I manage. But this is for someone that knows didaly squat about linux, and he want's to add and remove USB devices and what not.

So much easier using genkernel for that in conjunction with hotplug and coldplug.

That way if they change any hardware, they don't break their box.

I will give this a shot and report back.

Thanks,

Okies Genkernel is compiling now, I defintly see why it wasnt working.

Genkernel did see the device, but it inserted it into the kernel as a module. Since modules get loaded after mounts, this would never work. I changed it to be in the kernel, and its compiling now.

This is gonna do it I am sure, but I will change to SOLVED after a sucessfull boot.

Thanks again,
