I have a two part question. I have a home network, and my family is trying to set up a good solution for sharing our HP OfficeJet G85 printer/scanner. Three of the computers that will be using the printer are Windows machines, and the fourth is my Gentoo box.
My first question is whether or not anyone has successfully gotten Gentoo to use a printer shared via a wireless print server (one of those little boxes you plug a USB printer into and connect to your LAN through wireless or wired Ethernet). More specifically, a Belkin 802.11g print server. According to the box, the print server supports Raw TCP/IP, LPR/LPD, and FTP. Has anyone gotten this to work?
My second question is more about the scanner function of the OfficeJet G85. The print server mentioned above does not support sharing of this, which would be nice. A different option I am considering is to set up another Gentoo box as a file/print server via Samba. Is there a way to share the scanner between the Windows machines and the Gentoo machines this way? |
