I have a video file on a reiserfs partition and when I try to copy it to another partition it fails, and dmesg gives the following disturbing messages:
Code:

ide: failed opcode was: unknown
end_request: I/O error, dev hda, sector 124296244
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=124296288, high=7, low=6855776, sector=124296252

These messages indicate that the hard disk is dying (although it is a brand new one), but when I run reiserfsck and reiserfsck --rebuild-sb, the program told me that everything is fine with the partition.

The interesting thing is that although I can not copy the movie, I can play it.

Can anybody tell me how I can look into this problem even further? Is the hard disk dying or the file is corrupted?

You may want to check the manufacturer website for your drive and see if they have a diagnostic utility you can run. Most of them do.
