I use Azureus which lets you proxy both the tracker and the peer connections. If you proxy just the tracker, but continue to allow peer connections, I'm just curious as to whether or not that adds anything at all to the security profile of the torrent transfer?

I don't think so. The thing is, when "they" catch people they do it (supposedly) by waiting until you have sent them copyrighted data, in which case is a peer connection not tracker connection. "They" can't monitor connections directly to trackers.

I'd just use the SafePeer plugin and be done with it.

I just installed safepeer and the current blocklist is 70.3 % of the internet which is both interesting and sort of funny.
No guarantee whatsoever that one of the allowed ip's isn't a snoop and it only takes one.

There are few gurantees in life...=)

I don't think you're going to find any way to be guranteed safety from monitoring, not with BitTorrent anyways (or any other widely used P2P network/protocol out there).
