I'm installing a raid5/6 trough evms
i've a lot of ntfs drives
it's becoming a nightmare because my knowladge is quite poor in filesystems:
*what filesystems can be resized to incrase space
*is there any tools for filesystems conversions(ex:NTFS=>fat,fat=>ext3...)
at the end i'll be using reiserfs 3.6

I've also a NTFS disk with bad sectors

I've played around with LVM2 on a non-RAID, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 system. LVM2 offers easy expandability, snapshots, drive labeling, and other useful features. Take a look at the LVM HOWTO. I found it to be well written. I got a perspective on the technology, and the recipes were handy in testing the system immediately. Assuming enough temporary space to move things around, and easy LVM2 resizing of partitions, copying any filesystems onto new partitions seems easy. You might also check out this post.

I would eventually like to use LVM2 with Gentoo, but I'm still an inexperienced n00b, with lot's of more basic issues on my plate, and for the moment LVM2 would require special attention off the main installation path. There is a handy guide, Gentoo LVM2 installation.

May you blaze the trail ahead, and show us the light.

I'd use lvm2, not evms, and both ext3 and reiserfs I believe can be both shrinked and grow in size.
