i got kde and gnome installed in my gentoo box. it works awosme...the best distro ive seen until now. ok the thing is the following every time i type "su" to have root privileges it doesnt work. the command works but i type the correct password and nothing. so i go to the console i logout from the current user and try to connect to the root with the password i just typed and nothing!! (ive tried this 2 or three times to make sure i was typing it correctly). well one thing i did notice is that when i go with user it says user@host....with root it just says root. perhaps my root user is not created on the host. well it is confusing. what shall i do? because i am trying to run some things and it is a pain to logout to use the other user...it makes it pointless. thanks |

Did you remember to change the root password before rebooting from the LiveCD? Are you sure your user is in the 'wheel' group? _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor
