I know there is a few D610 owners on these forums. My request is simple, any one who has had any kind of trouble with having to tweak their kernel to get their mother board to stop squealing all the damned time.
Please post here.
Also, I would like to have us become a "Squeaky wheel" for Dell. I am hoping that if enough of us call and complain about the issue, they will either make a BIOS fix, or come out with another revision of the mother board that has better capacitors...
I have now been able to replicate it while in the BIOS, by playing with the Fn+F8 keys.

It isn't possible to have a sticky for every model of computer.

My D610's mainboard is squealing only when both the ACPI module "processor" is loaded and the system is idle. This makes it very unpleasant to use power management features. Can this be resolved by tweaking, too? |

it partially can yes,
if you edit /usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386/param.h
and change the number 1000 to 250 or 100 (100 is the only one that has worked for me) it should go away.
I have also noticed that after that plugging in USB devices causes it as well.
