This is probably a dumb question...
I just finished the first part of installing Gentoo on my new laptop. I tried to specify a VGA mode of vga=0798 as a boot parameter, which I thought was supposed to be 1600x1200x16 -- but it didn't like it.
When typing it again, I accidentally put in 0978 instead of 0798. It seemed happy with that, and came up in a nice, high resolution.
However, I've looked all over the net and can't find a list. How do I determine what video mode my console is actually running in, because I'm not sure. _________________ "Pokey, are you drunk on love?"

Yeah, I saw all those. The thing is, what I'm experiencing dosen't seem to agree.
I'm supposed to be able to run in 1600x1200x16, but accodring to
0x11D 1600x1200x16
- although the kernel docs say I should add 0x0200 to that, to get the figure I pass.
- Which is 0x31D, or 0797, which my machine didn't like.
- It did like 978, which I discovered by a typo... Bit I can't find that on the list. It's 3D2, which should be VESA mode number 1D2, and I can't find a list of modes that goes up that high.
_________________ "Pokey, are you drunk on love?"
