Hi,
I'm running Postgres 7.4.7 and it has been running fine (haven't wanted to upgrade to 8.x just yet). However, within the last few days I am getting errors whenever I run any of the postgres binaries:
> psql
psql: symbol lookup error: psql: undefined symbol: get_progname
> pg_dumpall
pg_dumpall: symbol lookup error: pg_dumpall: undefined symbol: get_progname
I can upgrade, but not without using pg_dumpall to kick out all the data.
Anyone know how to resolve this? I can't find anything in the forums here or via google. Help appreciated.
Thanks! |

Just to ask some simple questions:
1. Have you emerged anything lately?
2. Tried revdep-rebuild to find any broken reverse dependencies?
3. Tried re-compiling postgresql ?
I know these are remedial and you have probably already tried them, but it just might help if you haven't.
Feel free to email me if you'd like and I will try to help, or just ask JxT how to get a hold of me _________________ --

answers:
1. yes, general updates via portage.
2. yes, no help with revdep-rebuild
3. yes, also updated to the last build of 7.x
I am able to log into the database remotely and do a pg_dumpall, but I am worried that if I upgrade to 8 I will have the same trouble and no longer have a running db...
anyone have any ideas? |

Hey can-o-worms, THANK YOU, that seems to have done it. libpq was running an 8x version while the db is 7x... |
