I have an Intel wireless card and use the IPW2200 driver. If I set things using iwconfig - such as the essid, channel, and key, then the card works fine. Otherwise, nothing. This is a new thing, as I have had it working for months and months. Does anyone know why the conf.d/wireless file isn't being used? Here is what mine looks like:

Code:

preferred_aps=( "MyPizza" "cmg-iupui" )
key_MyPizza="the_key_for_this_one"
key_cmg_iupui="a_different_key_for_this_one"
associate_order="preferredonly"
associate_test_eth1="all"

Thanks for the help!

do you still have baselayout in your package.keywords?
if yes, remove this line, you don't need it anymore, and rebuild the previous - and stable - version of baselayout. this will make your wireless work again!

cheers,
kitano

I've just had the same problem and that did fix it. But I'm a little more curious than just to accept that. Why does wireless not work in baselayout-1.11.13? What's changed?

For me, once I had connected using iwconfig manualy, the next reboot, and it worked fine. I didn't even have to "downgrade" baselayout. So I am going to go ahead and mark ths solved now :)

Thanks for the help

This REALLY hosed me. I did an "emerge -uD world" overnight on my mythtv box, did a reboot, and a few hours of desperate Sunday morning troubleshooting commenced, not to the chagrin of my wife.

What seems to have happened, and I didn't investigate it too deeply, is that a new /lib/rcscripts/net.modules.d/iwconfig got pushed, perhaps part of baselayout. iwconfig thinks the iwconfig binary is in /sbin, when in fact it is in /usr/sbin. I made sym links from /sbin to /usr/sbin, and all was restored.

Somebody, somewhere, must be very embarassed. :)

Thanks for the fix of rolling back the baselayout. I read another thread that mentioned the fact it was the baselayout package which broke it and I do remember this being one of the packages I emerged when I did an update.

Unofrtunately for me the symlink fix didnt try work as I had already tried that but obviously rolling back worked a charm. Seriously if these are the type of crappy bugs we are going to see in baselayout then I _really_ dont need to be running unstable/testing. I believe that most people would have only had to do that because of a previous bug *sigh*

Thanks again
