Hi,
My new 60GB drive for my old laptop should be arriving today, so I've decided to do a fresh install of Gentoo. Because this laptop only has a PII 400Mhz processor, I'd like to connect the 60GB HDD up to my Athlon desktop using an external USB2 drive casing and install Gentoo onto the hard disk, compiling everything using my desktop.
The problem is - how do I compile Gentoo for my laptop (Pentium II) using my desktop (Athlon)? Also, can I do it without distccd as I've never been able to get distccd to work for me.
Many thanks,
Matt |

well if you can't get the distributed compiler working then you can always try compiling it and installing everything on the athlon. Just remember to set your USE flags to something appropriate for your PII. Then.. I would suggest (directly before moving to the PII) compiling everything in the kernel again for the PII. When the compile is complete and you have updated grub or whatever for reboot, move the drive over and give it a shot. |

And build the packages for the pentium II there after setting the cflags correctly in make.conf. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved.
