Hi all,
I am looking for some information on setting up some kind of SNMP monitoring with Gentoo. I have used some of the high dollar monitoring tools in the past but I have never setup SNMP. If there is a newb HOW-TO out there I would appreciate that. I know some basics already and have read some of the generic documentation already, but I have not found any decent info on setting up SNMP. I figured Linux would be a good starting point since I can take a few devices and play it while being constrained to a budget of zero. I checked out portage and found several SNMP monitoring software options, but don't have enough info to know whats is the best ebuild or what my full shopping list will be. Ultimately, I would like to end up in a position that I can take this basic knowledge and work with it until it is clear, then progress into a working solution to monitor nodes across a medium sized network. _________________ Drinking from the fountain of knowldege.

If you look in these forums you'll find a couple of HOWTO's for MRTG & Nagaios (sp). These are pretty good in starting to get SNMP running within gentoo. I don't know if these will take you exactly where you wanna go, but at least its a start. |
