Alsa works, I built it into the kernel using genkernel and didn't put the OSS feature in sound section
Coldplug tries to modprobe modules that are kind of related to oss, I think.
How do I get rid of it?
Also, am I right in saying alsa still doesn't preform as well as the window drivers for a soundblaster 2 zs, and that
buying a good sound card it a waste of time if your only using linux? I can't get enough bass out of alsa, no where near that of
what I can get in windows. I'd like it to get to the point where my bass bottoms out instead of the speaker bottoming out. |

you think it tries to modprobe something ? but you are not sure....
if you dont need OSS - disable it in the kernel.
see if you have soemthing in /etc/modules.autoload/kernel-2.x
and your other question: probably.
remember that drivers for hardware in linux its all a guess work and reverse engineering.
while in windows they get all the info they need.
That goes for pretty much all hardware.

| and also I don't have mkresierfs even though it is compiled in the kernel, is there something I need to emerge? |
