I have a client who is having a lot of problem with one of their Windows desktop in a semi public area that his employees keep loading software such as games, etc. during their midnight shift. He now wants to try Linux with Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice, and a PDF reader. I am planning to use Gentoo Linux with X. Can someone suggest the best GUI (Gnome, KDE, etc.) for a minimal X installation? BTW, I need to know which PDF reader would be best as well?
Thanks! ![Confused :?](images/smiles/icon_confused.gif) |

maybe xfce would be more suitable - gnome loads like a million packages.
if you want something even "lighter" try a setup just with X and a window manager - fvwm or fluxbox comes to mind.
for PDF reader - if evince is production ready, try that, if not gpdf should be ok. _________________ linux: #232767 |

XFCE4 or fluxbox, and as a pdf reader I recommend 'xpdf'.
Gnome/kde are bloated, but you can 'emerge gnome-light' or 'emerge kdelibs kdebase' only. You'll get the very minimalistic desktop without unneccessary stuff. |

Moved to DE, no GUI questions at Installing Gentoo.
and please don't crosspost. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |
