IBM RS6000/250 legacy!

hi,
A friend offered me an old IBM RS6000/250 without any cdrom drive!

The architecture is Risk based and I have been told that this system used to run a RedHat distro.

My question is: did one of you ever installed a Gentoo on such a system? Or have you heard about it? I'm familiar with x86 architecture but here I'm kinda lost.

Any suggestions or commets would be very much appreciated.

I think you mean "RISC" (Reduced Instruction Set Computing).

AFAIK they're PowerPC boxes... you might want to have a look at Gentoo Linux/PPC. :-)

There are several threads for RS6000 boxes, one of them is this one.

Careful though, AFAIK the different RS6000 models have very differing CPUs (all of them are POWER based though), better double check that yours is supported by any live CD or floppies in question.

Redhatter: Yes you are right it is RISC based, sorry for the confusion.
nephros: I'm gonna check that straight away.
