Hi, I'm running on a DFI LanParty nForceII ultra b which has sata raid (0, 1 or 0+1) on it. So I decided to give away an old IDE hard drive and get an sata one (seagate 160 GB). It is here and installed physically in the pc fine, but here is where the problems start. In order to get it past the mother board's raid ultilities (despite the fact that I'm not using raid) I have to have the bios set to boot from scsi card (the only other option is sata in this section) and in the genie bios section have the sata section set to sata, the other two options being disabled and sata-raid. Keep in mind that this is still booting from another IDE hard drive. So it boots up, here I am and it does not create a device to use the drive. Nor does it show up in dmesg. I have built the sata controllers into the kernel which it seems to recognize booting up, but that doesn't show up in dmesg either. So, basically, there is no way to access the drive. Any ideas? Please let me know if I should post any logs or files or whatnot. I admit that I am not the most knowlegable person in linux, so I may just not be looking in the right places. Thanks in advance.

In kernel config have you tried enabling all sata options in scsi low level driver section.(I have compiled all sata drivers in the kernel rather than modules)
I am using sata drives in similar setup as yours without any problems.
Once you have made sure everything is compiled in the kernel..and then chances are your sata drive will be detected as scsi drive.
so it'll be sda instead of hda _________________ All your Gentoo are belong to us. |

Hey, thanks for the reply. However this case was just my own stupidity showing through. I had selected the driver right below the one I needed. Thanks a lot though, it would have been a lot longer before I went back to check with out the help. Thanks. |
