Essnetially, I still have my linux installation (gentoo) on a 20 GB usb HDD. I connected it to an external enclosure, and connected it to USB. My computer currently is a laptop. What I want to do, is have the laptop boot up, and either by CD or by grub on the MBR, boot up off of either the internal HD, windows XP, or the external USB HD, Linux. It does not load the external USB HD by default.

Is this possible? how can I get it done.

Please let me know, and try to dumb it down a bit, I'm only a novice to light intermediate linux user :)

Thanks,

Excelsior

Seems you'll have to use a initrd with usb modules on it..

Code:
emerge sys-apps/mkinitrd

*I found the next line over the net: http://www.simonf.com/usb/
Code:
mkinitrd --preload=ehci-hcd --preload=usb-storage --preload=scsi_mod --preload=sd_mod /boot/usbinitrd.img 2.6.9-1.667smp

Then use this initrd.
