Hi all,
I'm getting ready to replace the cdrom drive in my gentoo amd64 box with a cdrw. Does anybody know what items I might need to reconfigure? Can it be as simple as pulling out the old cdrom and installing the new cdrw then emerging k3b?
Thanks!

That should work. Udev will detect the new drive. You will, of course, have to setup your k3b/software, to tell it that you have an r/w.
