I have had the devil's own time getting my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz PCI soundcard set up and running with ALSA. The desktop guide assumes you are using modules, and its not very good about dealing with an error (it written as if everything goes fine).
I have the problem that the alsa start(in .etc.init.d) comes back with "no asound.conf" error, and then if I try the mixer, I get "no soundcard found". (also rebooted same stuff happens, and if I cat /proc/asound/sndstat i get "no card"). This card worked flawlessly under Mandrake and Redhate.
I usually compile-in the drivers (cs461x in this case) into my kernel with soundcore, but apparently that doenst work with the 2.4 series and ALSA 0.5x This is my first time ever dealing with Devfs in any detail, and I think I may have some problems there as well.
Should I move to the 2.5.7 or 2.5.8 kernel, or do I need to make everything modular instead of my usual monolithic kernel?
If anyone here has installed their TB-SC soundcard and has it working with ALSA, please let me know what you did.
TIA for helping me learn
