Just installed a new system from the 1.4rc2 Live CD. I configured my Hoontech Sound Track Audio DSP24 Value to use Alsa drivers (0.9.0_rc6 and the snd-ice1712 module) and sound output works fine. The problem is with the speed of sound (tried mpg123 and xmms for playback) - everything is playing too fast. The speed increase is something near 10% or so - seems the timing is off somehow? Is this a FAQ that I just missed - any ideas?

sounds like its trying to play 44.1KHz PCM at 48KHz
I used to have this problem with an i810 onboard ac97 sound card.
Never fixed it :(

An easy solution to the problem:

The alsa-tools package contains an envy24control program that can be used in changing the hardware settings for the sound card. Changing the sample rate from 48kHz to 44.1kHz stops the extra speeding of the audio. :)

I'm still having problems with reboots clearing the changes - if anyone has experience with this, please let me know.

NOTE! Only works with sound cards using the ice1712 module.

If you don't have an ice1712 based card (like Phreakazoid_) you can workaround starting the KControlPanel and check Sound&Multimedia->SoundSystem.
The Sound-I/O tab holds an entry for a user-defined sampling rate. Try to set 48000Hz there.
As this is a setting for the arts sound backend, you should be able to play sound at the right speed using the arts-driver in applications that support it (e.g. xmms, kde-stuff).

sorry for the late reply, but it's a bug in the alsa rc6 ice driver, just upgrade alsa to something higher
