Traceroute on Php

I tried playing around with php and traceroute..

found a couple of scripts..

one of them is :
http://www.theworldsend.net/trace_src.php

the thing is.. i can do ping.. but i cant do traceroute.. is this somesort of a permission issue?

traceroute is a sysadmin tool. and it can only be accessed by root.

how do i install traceroute to be used by an ordinary user?

i tried chown on my script. and make it a wheel group.. didnt work..

You may want to call tracepath, which can be run by any user. It's part of net-misc/iputils and installed into /usr/sbin/ at least on my system.

tracepath can only be used by root. in my system..

how do i configure traceroute to run on /bin

i tried a sym link.. also put'n a path on my script. i.e /usr/sbin/traceroute can and will work on as any user buy my script is still getting per. denied.

The best solution is to use sudo.

with that your apache can use traceroute cmd line.
