|
|
Okay, I'm trying to configure my jabber server to allow groupchat, or conferencing. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be part of the base Gentoo installation of jabber, unless I'm missing something. I googled a non-Gento specific solution, and it involves CVSing and splicing the source. I'd like to avoid this if at all possible.
I'm aware of the mu-conference portage and have it installed. Now I'm looking for a cross platform client, or 'groupchat' specifically.
Assistance?
Regards,
Ben

Have been looking for the same thing. Look at mu-conference (emerge -s). Don't know much more about it, but Googling brought it up in the first place. If I get it running I'll let you know. _________________ Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm. - Winston Churchill |

Hi there,
Conferencing under Jabber requires an external module, typically mu-conference. For a client, most of them will work as long as they support at least groupchat. You can get a full list on the jabber.org website. I personally use several whilst I am working on mu-conference, although I primarily use tkabber or sometimes psi. |

Okay, I think I "got it figured out."
You can emerge mu-conference along with jabber. However, you need a client that handles the mu-conference protocol. For Windows, that left me scratching my head for a bit until I tried Gaim. Originally, I tried Exodus, but it relies on the 'groupchat' protocol. That protocol seems to have been a hack.
So, I tried it out yesterday for the first time, and it was successful. I'm in law school, and a few of us like to collaborate during class. It keeps us busy and involved. |

dausha,
How did you get mu-conference to be advertised as a service? The readme's are crap with some really lousy examples. Please help! |

Sorry I just now got your message. Talk about late.
I didn't get it to advertise. I restricted access to a few trusted people. Therefore, I am unable to help. Sorry. |
