well, first you need to mount your boot partition and do a

Code:

mv /boot/bzImage /boot/bzImage.old

then compile your new kernel and

Code:

cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/bzImage

and that should do it.
someone let me know if i missed something
