Ho un problema..
Installando gentoo 2005.0 (dal live cd) ho cercato prima di assicurarmi che funzionasse la rete. Io ho un modem DSL che mi è stato fornito da telecom (della siemens, quello bianco rettangolare per intenderci).
Ho provato con adsl-setup metto il mio username e password e altre opzioni ma arrivo al punto che mi chiede l indirizzo IP del server DNS primario CHE IO NON SO, ESSENDOMI SEMPRE CONNESSO CON DEBIAN (pppoe).
lasciando vuoto il campo, quando faccio adsl-start mi dice CONNECTED ma quando vado a pingare o a scaricare qualcosa con wget non risponde..
con ifconfig mi rileva la eth0..e quando faccio adsl-start anche la ppp0 ma LA RETE NON SEMBRA FUNZIONARE..
idee?

niente da fare ..anche mettendo quell indirizzo come server DNS primario non pinga..
ho anche una ubuntu dove la connessione funzia sempre con PPPoE..ho provato a copiare il file resolv.conf nella directory della gentoo live ma niente da fare..MI DICE SEMPRE:
" .......Connected!"
MA NON PINGA!!!!!
come posso fare?

quando con adsl-setup ti chiede i dns tu inserisci in questo modo la telecom ti fornirà, di connessione in connessione i dns più adatti.

non pinga lo stesso!!! 
ma perchè? mi rileva anche la eth0..

Nessuno mi può aiutare?
So che ci sono problemi con i modem USB...ma quello che mi stupisce è che mi rileva la eth0..mi dice CONNECTED e mi rileva anche la ppp0
Il modem USB dovrebbe avermelo riconosciuto no?

come?
ragazzi ho risolto..era un problema di gateway!!
Il problema ADESSO è che dopo aver fatto emerge system (stage2) ..installato tutte le mie belle cosine..abilitato l hotplug e compilato il kernel con genkernel NON MI RILEVA PIU' LA ETH0, mentre dal livecd me la rilevava.
Come è possibile?

ti serve il nuovo firmware (se vuoi te lo passo). l'unico svantaggio è che perdi l'uso della porta usb (che io non ho mai usato), ma poi ottieni tutti i vantaggi di un router (con firewall, redirezione delle porte, dyndns incluso ecc ecc)

di tutte o solo di quella USB?
Secondo voi perchè nn mi trova più la eth0 che dal liveCD me la rilevava?

la ethernet funziona, la usb non più. ma visto che diventa un router, poco te ne fai dell'usb..

cmq il problema è che io nn ho la porta ethernet..è per quello che la uso come USB.capisci?
dopo nn riuscirei ad usarlo neanke come USB e sarei nella merda.giusto?

IO NON HO LA ETHERNET NEL PC..NON HO LA SCHEDA DI RETE..PER QUELLO LA USO CON LA USB!!!!
