anyone know if there is a problem with the getoo distro server? I have been installing for over 6 hours and I am now getting connections failures and timeout errors.
Sorry it just started to work again? perhaps they had a problem and noticed my first post??

It is probably just due to lots of traffic. Take a look at the gentoo mirror list linked from the gentoo.org site, and find one that is close to you. Add them at the bottom of you make.conf file in the following format:
Code: |
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://path/to/mirror http://path/to/other/mirror"
|
Make sure you stick the ibiblio site in there as well so it has somewhere to fall back to if the mirrors you specified are down or unavailable.
This seems to work well for me. _________________ We used to have hominid cousins that were vegetarian. The palæontological record suggests that our ancestors killed them and ate them. |

Thanks for the info!
I had set this up due to a post in another thread. Somehow we need to get simple things like this in a list so others can reap the benefits! It does not mention GENTOO_MIRRORS in the use-howto? dont know what else it is missing in the howto?

GENTOO_MIRRORS is a recent addition to portage. It should, however, probably
be added to the x86 install document. Interestingly, there is reference in the
Sparc install document to using a mirror, but it doesn't really tell you how.
