Ok, I'm up to this point and everything seems to be running smoothly until I go to edit:
Livecd gentoo # nano -w /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf
The file is black with GNU nano 1.3.4 File: /mnt/gentoo/ect/make.conf at the top and nothing else inside. I'm assuming something is wrong, esp. when I see it like this, back out to prompt, check my typing, and go back in. Same thing, only this time, it's locked up F2 won't exit.
What have I done wrong this time. I need to figure out where this file is that I need to edit.
Thanks,
Jon |

To exit out of nano you just do Ctrl+X, that will get you back to prompt without problems. Also, there should be at least something in that file. What do you see if you run the command "mount" and also "ls -lah /mnt/gentoo/"? Please paste the results into here if you can. If you can't, are you sure you have everything properly mounted and the basic stage 1 file extracted? |

hi
just thought i would mention that nano -w /etc/make.conf is usually empty on the gentoo 2005.0 live-cd for some reason
so just add in the info that you want or go Code: | cp /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf.example /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf | before you chroot
or if you have chrooted the use Code: | cp /etc/make.conf.example /etc/make.conf | and what the does it copies over the example page to make.conf
That way all you have to do is uncomment the things you want to use........Hope this helps some |
