xorg.conf wurde mit fglrxconfig generiert... glxgears funktioniert
Es handelt sich um eine ATI PCIe Grafikkarte (X700 Pro mit 256 MB RAM)
bin für jeden tipp dankebar :)

Bei mir killt sich der ganze X-Server, wenn ich doom3 aus der Konsole starte. Mit <Alt><F2> -> doom3 gibt's keine Probleme.
Was eventuell auch noch sein kann: Manchmal willer in der /etc/hosts diese Zeile:

127.0.0.1       localhost tux

[edit] ersetze tux durch deinen hostname (aus /etc/conf.d/hostname) [/edit]

Es reicht im übrigen ein einfaches emerge doom3 nicht aus, du musst von den install-cd's die *.pk4-Pakete in deine doom-Installation kopieren.

Ich hopffe das hat dir was gebracht.

Ähm, du hast in deiner xorg.conf keine Section "Module".
Meine sieht so aus:

    Load        "dbe"   # Double buffer extension
    SubSection  "extmod"
      Option    "omit xfree86-dga"   # don't initialise the DGA extension
    EndSubSection

# This loads the font modules
    Load        "type1"
#    Load        "speedo"

     Load       "glx"
EndSection

Du musst für deine ati-Karte natürlich statt dem glx entweder dri oder fglrx laden. Außerdem solltest du die Zeile

Load    "extmod"
hinzufügen.
Welche Treiber verwendest du eigentlich? Versuchs einfach mal mit den neuesten.
Geht sonst deine 3d-Beschleunigung?

Vielleicht hilft auch ein einfaches

$ export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib32/modules/dri
$ doom3

den treiber hab ich von der ati website...
