I just got the card and have been trying for a while to install it.

I've built the Hermes driver into my kernel. I've installed wpa-supplicant and configured it per the howto.

I've rebooted and tried to bring up eth1, but get:

Code:
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
eth1: unknown interface: No such device
SIOCSIFBRDADDR: No such device
eth1: unknown interface: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device

I don't know where to begin. LSPCI shows the card (Atheros Communications).

What's the first step?

If your card shows up as an Atheros card in lspci, try using the madwifi driver instead of hermes. Many different chipsets are/were sold in "orinoco" cards.
