|

Hello, im hosting a postfix smtp server and cyrus-sasl and cyrus-imapd server's and everything was running fine till thismorning. when i connect to my smtp server, 1st of all now i get this error message as it connects;
Warning: inverse host lookup failed for 69.146.248.155: Unknown host
take-notes.com [69.146.248.155] 2525 (?) open
220 smtp.take-notes.com ESMTP Postfix
it never gave me the warning inverse lookup failed.
second, i can connect to smtp port and 143 just fine, but when i go to connect to pop3 (110) it just sits there, doesn't give me the +OK it just sits blank. could this be a problem with reverse dns, and if so why is it just now affecting my machine?
any help is greatly appreciated!! thanks in advance |

Usually for pop/imap and smtp I disable reverse lookups. It sounds like reverse lookups are the cause of your delays, disable them and try connecting again, my guess is that it will be respond much faster. |

Dont know for sure but I would venture a guess that it would be in the POP3 server config file. _________________ --[ UltraSPARC ]--

It's not a BIND/DNS change that's needed here.
Your mailserver, or part of it, is failing due to no reverse DNS being set-up for your IP. If it's Postfix whining then make sure you give it a hostname in main.cf. If you don't it seems to do a lookup to work out its hostname.

I have my main.cf setup just fine, hostname and everything, it worked fine for months then one morning when i woke up it was delayed like this, so i'd assume it's not the postfix config, plus it doesn't output anything in the postfix logs about it. i don't see anywhere in my cyrus.conf or imapd.conf for reverse dns though |

as stated above, i have postfix with cyrus-imap and cyrus-sasl and bind dns. everything was working great until one day i connected and it took me 5 minutes to get into my mail acount through pop3. some people say it was becuase of reverse dns and it needing to be disabled, but there is no where in my cyrus.conf or imapd.conf that specifies anything about reverse dns. if anybody has a suggestion i'd appreciate it. thanks |
