Hello,

I am wondering one thing. I have a server and a laptop not far from each other, and since I often move around the laptop, I'm trying to plug everything on my server and use them from laptop.

I easily managed to sort the printer, but I am wondering if I could do that with the webcam too...

The idea would be to have the usb webcam plugged on server, but to have the image usable from laptop... let me try to clarify :) basically, to have my laptop believing that the webcam is plugged on it so I could use the webcam (from server) in amsn, gnomeeting, etc from laptop...

Does it sounds possible, crazy?

Any tips, info, advice and solution will be more than welcome :)

Thanks in advance
Ludo

I'm afraid that's not possible.
The programs you mention all read the v4l devices (like /dev/video), and devices specials files are "local files" which can't be shared over NFS or Samba.

You could of course use camsource or some other app to grab images or video streams from the cam and make those availabe (via web server, nfs etc.), but that won't help you with the IM tools.
