Hi *,
I was wondering what are the differences between the different sources, mostly between the gentoo and the vanilla sources besides the kernel version. Say if both were version 2.4.20, what would be the difference then? Which one should fit better on an old Pentium MMX 233 MHz laptop? |

See <HELP?> Which kernel do I choose? and KC6: Which Sources?.
I think the choice will mostly be between gentoo, vanilla, lolo, ck, and ac. The trade-offs are mostly between stability, performance/responsiveness, and hardware support; so I don't think it'll be so much the case that one will be more suited for your old laptop than another; 'fitting' on an old machine is rarely an issue.
Read the documentation that gets installed in the Documentation directory of the sources or watch the merge process to see which patches are applied, and what they do. You can also pick and choose among them to create anything between gentoo and vanilla, for example. _________________ Man must shape his tools lest they shape him. |
