|
|
Hello,
I tried to replace my Fedora pre-4 with Gentoo 2005.0 on my Pavilion, and ran into following problem:
The live CD (using gentoo-nofb) found my SATA harddrive correctly, and mapped it to /dev/sde (I have only that drive in the PC). Although I found it strange that the drive wasn't mapped to /dev/sda, I continued, and all worked fine.
However, in the chrooted environment, I could no longer find the hard drive . It wansn't mapped to /dev/sde, or any other SCSII port. Nor could I see it as a regular ATA drive. Consequently, I could not install the boot loader (took me a bit of panicking and old tricks to get the machine boot into Windoze again). Any idea what went wrong, and how to make that work?
Thank you,
Indystef

Hi and welcome to the forums.
Before doing the chroot did you do
Code: | # mount --bind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev |
If not, exit the chroot, run this command, do the chroot
Code: | # chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
# env-update
# source /etc/profile |
and continue where you left off.
PS - Your disk is probably /dev/sde because you either have an usb disk or a card-reader. _________________ Jorge.

Thank you. I'll give it another try tomorrow.
Is that something that doesn't happen often? If not, maybe the documentation should include that step, too.
And yes, I do have card readers ... thank you for shedding light on that, too.
Thanks again,
