|
|
Hi there all of you
recently I switch my graphics card do a ati 9200 based card... i'm using right now the closed drivers fglrx... so i'm asking to all of you:
- what's the name of the open driver for this card? it's "radeon"? it cames with Xorg or with the kernel?
- what driver is best for this board? the closed one or the open?
i would prefer the open one cause i can use all bleeding edge kernel's (as i know right now the closed drivers don't work with recent kernels), but i don't know how to use the open drivers any help? tia

For anything up to and including the 9250 the open source is recommended, the rest does not work with the open source driver as far as i know. (or 3d is not accelerated) I think the driver is called radeon. |

well i'm with closed drivers and 3d aceleration runs very smooth.... so I'm not going to switch if open drivers doesn't provide full 3d aceleration at least... |

If you have a 9200, the open driver will give you full 3D acceleration. There is work going on to support it for newer cards too, but it's still experimental. Try both and see which works best for you. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

madman2003 said: up to and including 9250 3D is working So if I was you I'd just OS drivers. Saves loads of trouble. Using radeonfb (kernel) is very nice, too. Google for default_dynclk
