Greetings...
Don't have a network... Now, I've gone through the install process thus far, and decided stage 3 would be the best bet for this machine... I've got the stage, and portage installed... I took a look at make.conf, and everything looked great... but now how do I get the kernel without the network?
I know I'm missing something stupid... Might have even missed it in the handbook... I've got the packages CD, but don't see a kernel on there....sigh, confused
Any points in the right direction would help Thanks! |

you can see the topic 4 ( Installing from Stage 1 without network access ) or topic 6 ( Installing Gentoo from an existing Linux distribution ) on http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/altinstall.xml |

Assuming you have already copied the source code from the Universal CD to /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/distfiles, you should be able to install the kernel sources like this.
Code: | # emerge gentoo-sources |
The emerge command only needs to use the network if it can't find the apropriate source code files in the distfiles directory.
EDIT : Welcome to the Gentoo forums. |
