I'm thinking of messing around with a nice configurable wm and although ive tried e before (e16) it was fairly unstable and slow, was messing around with wm's and fluxbox seems nice, might emerge it when i get home, does it have xcompmgr built in or is there an easy way to get true transparency and dropshadows etc in it, dun worry using and nvidia card so no worries about speed :D

fluxbox is nice and lightweight and supports pseudo transparancy. xcompmgr is an application for using the composite extension of xorg. It is not part of a windowmanager.

Fluxbox supports xcompmgr (and therefore real-transparency) as well... :)

Start Fluxbox and look in the Configuration Menu. Put the transparency to a value of your choice and start xcompmgr. If you want shadows or fade effects, start xcompmgr with the required parameters.

Flux is a great WM. It is VERY lighweight and takes only but a mere 4 seconds to start up for me. It looks nice and is very easy to modify.

ok, no matter what i do, i get a black background in fluxbox.. here is my .fluxbox/startup

Quote:

# fluxbox startup-script:
#
# Lines starting with a '#' are ignored.

# You can set your favourite wallpaper here if you don't want
# to do it from your style.
#
bsetbg -f ~/Misc/BeutifulWorld.jpg
#
# This sets a black background

#/usr/bin/bsetroot -solid black

# This shows the fluxbox-splash-screen
fbsetbg -C /usr/share/fluxbox/splash.jpg
#fbsetbg -C /home/fuag/Misc/BeutifulWorld.jpg

# Other examples. Check man xset for details.
#
# Turn off beeps:
# xset -b
#
# Increase the keyboard repeat-rate:
# xset r rate 195 35
#
# Your own fonts-dir:
# xset +fp /home/fuag/.font
#
# Your favourite mouse cursor:
# xsetroot -cursor_name right_ptr
#
# Change your keymap:
# xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap

# Applications you want to run with fluxbox.
# MAKE SURE THAT APPS THAT KEEP RUNNING HAVE AN ''&'' AT THE END.
#
# unclutter -idle 2 &
# wmnd &
# wmsmixer -w &
#idesk &
#torsmo &

# And last but not least we start fluxbox.
# Because it is the last app you have to run it with ''exec'' before it.

exec /usr/bin/fluxbox
# or if you want to keep a log:
# exec /usr/bin/fluxbox -log ~/.fluxbox/log
./.fluxbox/startup (END)

grr... and yes that dir really exists /home/fuag/Misc/BeutifulWorld.png its the "its a beutiful world" render from blender3d.org, i think its this month still 8)

So far it is really nice, dont get the xcompmgr thing yet, i mean i get how to use it, not sure how to get it to auto set my windows through fluxbox, but i figure getting a bg to work is much more important, lol :)

nvm, searched around and found answers, anyone know how to inver the mousewheel though, ./.fluxbox/keys doesnt have anything in it about the mouswheel binds, would really like to make it so that scroll down moves to the right and scrool up moves to the left desktop, its instinctual for me and really messin me up when working across desktops.. :(
